Published in the Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry, a joint study between the Roswell Park Cancer Institute, New Zealand Institute for Crop and Food Research Limited and the Johns Hopkins University, found that bladder tissue is particularly responsive to Sulforaphane. Rats were fed a broccoli sprout extract via oral intubation or included in their dietary feed.  Subsequent urinary output showed dose dependent high levels of isothiocyanate metabolites with no sign of toxicity.  These findings suggest that Sulforaphane may be especially effective in protecting against bladder cancer. (Zhang, Y, et al., November 2006).

Do you know if any of the suppliers of SGS or similar products, are planning on using a delivery system that would bypass the liver, such as liposome technology.  It seems that it should allow for a much greater effect with the same amount of dosage.

There is evidence that glucosinolates metabolized (producing dithiocarbamates in the urine) within a matter of hours in both animal and human clinical studies. I'll cite the Kensler Qidong study, Effects of glucosinolate-rich broccoli sprouts on urinary levels of aflatoxin-DNA adducts and phenanthrene tetraols in a randomized clinical trial in He Zuo township, Qidong, People's Republic of China. Cancer Epidemiol Biomarkers Prev. 2005 Nov;14(11 Pt 1):2605-13.

Okay, here's my next question!
At one of the lectures I attended, there was a chart that showed Phase 2 Response Induction by a Variety of Phytochemicals and sulforaphane was right at the top (ahead of pinostrobin, zeaxanthin, quercitin, curcumin and carotenoids and chlorophyllin, B-12 and chlorophyll.)
It was based on 2 Fahey studies and a Khachick study ...
I don't understand the bottom where it shows the X-axis title as
"Potency -- Amount Required for CD (microMoles)"

What is CD?  And can you tell me approximately what tiny amount of sulforaphane induced what, please?

Nikidita,

That's one and one quarter pounds = 1¼ lbs = 20 ounces. The original message is missing a space.

Lance.

SGS-Rich BroccoSprouts(R) Researchers at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, who first isolated sulforaphane from broccoli in 1992, found that young broccoli sprouts, in particular, contained concentrations of SGS that were 20 to 50 times greater than those found in adult cooked broccoli. These broccoli sprouts are now available to consumers as BroccoSprouts(R). One ounce of BroccoSprouts has the same amount of SGS as 1-1/4 pounds (20 ounces) of mature, cooked broccoli.

So... what is 11/4 pounds?  (it says it equates to 20 ounces) but it doesn't make sense... maybe I'm not reading it right?   help, pls

Hi all,

Just a note that we had a brief interruption in service today, related to a power failure at our namesever site. This has been resolved, and we are up and functioning again. Thanks for your patience!

Lance.
